Concert to feature principal musicians of main orchestra

By Jenna Martin
Staff Writer

The Symphony Orchestra Augusta will bring the sounds of classical music to Columbia County on Saturday with its second Columbia County Music Series concert.

"Chamber music is a special, more intimate experience for both the musicians on stage and the audience," Symphony Orchestra Augusta Executive Director Sandra Self wrote in an e-mail.

The concert will feature double bassist Milton Masciadri and pianist Ana Flavia Frazao, both principal musicians with the symphony.

Other members of the symphony performing at the concert include violinist Eliza Hesse, violist Carl Purdy and cellist Yanghee Lee.

"The purpose of this season's Columbia County Music Series is to feature our principals so that our audiences realize what outstanding musicians are in the Symphony Orchestra Augusta, and consider attending more concerts the Symphony Orchestra Augusta presents," Self wrote.

The concert is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. at the Jabez Sanford Hardin Performing Arts Center inside the Columbia County Library.

The symphony's music director, Shizuo "Z" Kuwahara, will introduce the program, with pieces composed by Giovanni Bottesini, Franz Anton Hoffmeister and Franz Schubert, among others.

The Columbia County Music Series will resume in 2010 with concerts on Jan. 9 and March 6.
