Shoppers can get a jump on Christmas

By Valerie Rowell
Staff Writer

A Columbia County event is offering a taste of early Christmas spirit Saturday and a chance to get a jump on that holiday shopping list.

The second annual Christmas, Crafts and Caroling will be from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday at Savannah Rapids Pavilion.

More than 50 vendors are expected to sell their wares at the event, which also will feature live holiday music from saxophonist Fred Williams, acoustic guitarist Joe Stephenson and the Savannah River String Band, said Stacie Adkins, Columbia County Community Events manager.

Vendors will be selling a variety of craft items, including soap, candles, wood carvings, home-baked goods, jewelry, custom embroidery, all-natural health and beauty products, pottery and children's items, including clothing and handmade dolls.

The free event is the perfect place to find a gift "for the hard-to-shop-for people," said Keela Fruehling, a community events specialist.

Last year's inaugural Christ-mas, Crafts and Caroling event was a success, so it was made into an annual gathering.

"It went very well," Adkins said.
