Businesses offer options for students

Options to enjoy spring break abound
By Valerie Rowell
Staff Writer

Masters Week in the area centers on golf.

But it is spring break for Columbia County students, who want to have some fun on their reprieve from school.

Numerous county businesses are offering Masters Week specials to help the youngsters find something to do.

Adventure Crossing is running "Masters is Spring Break in Augusta" specials through April 12 at the family and sports entertainment park at 4350 Wheeler Road.

For $12, visitors can purchase the Unlimited Outside Ride Pass, which includes an hour of unlimited rides on the three go-kart tracks, midway rides and two miniature golf courses. A second hour costs $6. Anyone above age 7 can add on a 30-minute/four-game session of laser tag for $8. The park also includes batting cages and an indoor arcade.

Managing partner Ed Smith said the lower prices and package deals are something park owners intend to keep at least through the end of the year.

"Through these tough economic times, we're going to continue to put forward real value packages for people," Smith said. "People, even in tough times, they want to have fun. They deserve to be able to get out with their families, have a good time and kind of put the troubles of the world aside for a few hours."

The park is open 4-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 4 p.m. to midnight Friday; 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday; and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Mark Ross, the owner of Putt-Putt Golf & Games, is praying for sunshine.

"We're hoping the weather is going to be outside weather instead of inside weather," Ross said.

The miniature golf and games park is offering a Masters Week special 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through April 12. Unlimited miniature golf on the park's two 18-hole courses, a round of laser tag, 20 game room tokens, a slice of pizza and a drink costs $12.

"At least they'll get a little bit of everything, no matter what the weather is," Ross said, adding the park also offers daily specials all week. "Every day there is a different special."

Putt-Putt, located at 3763 Martinez Blvd., is open 10 a.m. to midnight Monday-Saturday and 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday.

For movie enthusiasts, Evans Stadium Cinemas 14 is offering early movie showings .

"We'll be open all day," Michael Jones, the first assistant manager, said, adding the theater normally opens at 3:30 p.m. on weekdays.

The theater, at 4365 Towne Center Drive in Evans, will add extra showings starting at noon Monday-Friday this week, which is typical during Masters Week, holidays, summer and weekends.

"There's a good 3-D movie out for kids," Jones said. "Monsters vs. Aliens ."

Tickets for movies beginning before 6 p.m. cost $6.50 per person. Those starting after 6 p.m. cost $9 for adults and $6.50 for children and seniors.

For those who would enjoy a golf outing this week, Mistletoe State Park in Winfield is holding a Crazy Golf Challenge on Tuesday.

The event starts at 10 a.m. and will include games of ladder golf, "qolf," and more. In ladder golf, participants toss golf balls strung together at a ladder to score points. Qolf is a hybrid of golf and croquet.

Prizes including golf necessities and gadgets, and discount coupons will be awarded.

Admission is $5 per person or $10 per family. There also is a $3 parking fee for the park, on Mistletoe Road off Highway 150 in Winfield.
